1.2.23

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

Kudos

Christina Brennan is a staff member who should be recognized.  She has only been present as a teacher for a couple of years, but she’s spent most of her young adult life supporting the school.  She has been a supportive department member, a flexible staff member, and an exciting instructor to our students. She spends countless hours preparing for her daily lessons and labs to make science or engineering alive and interactive in her classes.  She’s always positive, easy to approach, gets involved and helps when asked, and is a delight to work alongside.  Our school is lucky to have a strong scientific mind for future generations.

Brass Lantern Pick-up Window

Over vacation, the pick-up window was installed in the Brass Lantern Restaurant.  There are still a few minor things left on the punch list, but it should be operational very soon within the new year.

Restrooms

A reminder beginning on Tuesday, January 3rd, the teachers will be using the restrooms in the 100 wing for males and the 200 wing for females. Students will be using the traditional teacher’s restrooms across from the main office. We are doing this with the hope of better monitoring of student access to the restrooms.

As you can imagine there will be a period of adjustment for staff and students alike.

Grading PLCs

John Scop. will be in touch with department heads to find a PLC during which we can talk about the next steps for grading. Specifically, we’ll review the results from our preliminary discussions, with a focus on grading scales and eligibility. In vocational PLCs, we’ll also talk about whether or not we should pilot a new timecard for co-op.

Schedule 2023-24

The 2023-24 schedule is well underway. The program of study has been revised, and academic program-level recommendations are complete. In the coming weeks, students will select courses. Academic programs are asked to provide their honors course recommendations on a Google Sheet no later than January 9th. Vocational programs are asked to look at their shop day. Are there improvements to the flow of the day/teacher assignments that should be considered? Keith Boyle and Sandy Baldner will join PLCs to discuss this.
