9.5.22

Welcome Back!

Thank you all for a solid start to the school year, we've gotten through our first day of school, taken our ID photos, and have our first fire drill under our belts. A great way to kick off what will be a fabulous year.

Staff Acknowledgements

All staff are required to sign-off receipt of the yearly documents.  You can find the list of documents for your review in the forms section of the Intranet under the Opening Day Teacher Packet.  You need to fill out the form entitled Staff Acknowledgements under the forms section of the Intranet.

Homework Help Center

Due to staff issues, the Homework Help Center will only be open for students on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday starting this week.  If a teacher is interested in opening the Homework Help Center on Monday afternoons at the contractual rate please make Katie Berry aware.

Cyber Security

As we start the new year we need to continue to be mindful of the importance of being diligent in our CyberSecurity practices. Unfortunately, schools continue to be prime targets of hackers, and it’s hitting closer and closer to home. For example, Rockland and Whitman/Hanson have both experienced major CyberSecurity Incidents recently.  I know it’s not exciting, but I can’t stress enough how important it is to complete and learn from the CyberSecurity training.  We will be providing PD time to ensure everyone has the ability to complete this important training.

Building Security

The security code for the doors has been changed to 196222*.

As we start a new year we would like to remind everyone to please make sure all exterior doors are shut and locked and classrooms are locked when not being occupied. If you are a teacher who uses 206, 206A, or 207 and you see the white vinyl fence door open, please close it. All visitors are required to stop at the main office first to check in before they can proceed to their destination.  Thank you for doing your part in keeping the building safe.

SRO Schedule

Officer Hill will be coming to a related class soon! He will utilize the data collected from the High Point survey that was conducted last spring to specifically focus on the issues at hand. Here is a schedule of when Officer Hill will be in your related classroom. Most of these dates will be for the full block, however, some may fall on a half day resulting in a shorter time. This will happen three times for grades 10-12 and twice for grade 9.

Reimagining Grading

Folks, I am thrilled to be back at South Shore, and I’m looking forward to working with you. Let the good times roll! My job as an Assessment Specialist is to work with all staff to explore, design, and implement equity-focused grading practices. In other words, my goal is to work with you to ensure grades are as accurate, fair, and helpful as they can be for students, families, and educators. In many ways, this is simply a continuation of the conversations about grading y'all started last year. I see my role as a coach for teachers, students, and families--someone who can answer questions, address concerns, and brainstorm solutions. I don’t pretend to know it all, but I can give you my time, my attention, and my promise that I will do everything I can to support you as we do this important work of reimagining grading. Later this week, I'll be in touch with department chairs to find a time when I can answer any initial questions you may have. In the meantime, though, please continue doing what you're doing, and have a great week! Take care, John Scop.
