Hello everyone!

Town Hall Meeting - SST invited you to a Virtual Town Hall for all staff on Monday from 1:00 - 1:30. There is no formal agenda, though we will touch upon hall passes and the 9th period. Otherwise, we will be available to take your questions.

Please look back at the Blogs from 8/15 & 8/22 for more information leading up to the start of school

Opening Day- We will begin Tuesday morning at 7:35 am in the cafeteria with a whole staff meeting.

There will be coffee and light refreshments starting at 7:15 am.

Please refer to the link for the rest of the week’s schedule.

  • Please note: There will be an all-school virtual meeting at 10:00 on Tuesday morning.
    • Staff will be asked to log in to a google meet so that their students can view the message.

E-Hall Pass - Update - Planning for initial teaching training on opening day with the full role out at 9/20 faculty meeting. Seeking interested teachers to pilot the program. Feel free to preview this introductory video to learn about this new system and the features it offers.

9th Period - How it works this year - 9th period will be scheduled in PowerSchool in the coming days. Here are a few highlights.

  • All students and teachers will be scheduled to the same location each day.

  • Soon, students will use the E-Hall Pass to go to see their teachers, you'll learn how convenient and safe it is!

  • Teachers will be assigned a partner from another department, and you'll both be scheduled with the same set of students each cycle.

  • You will cover each other's PLCs as needed, and work out your own coverage schedule from there.

  • We have created academic department student hubs. It will be a place for available teachers to meet with students or available colleagues.

  • The academic DH will be assigned to that location, but no students will be scheduled to the location.

  • On Friday, we have scheduled co-curricular days. Students will be scheduled to their regular directed-study location, and use an E-hall pass to go to see their co-curricular advisor.

Work Habits Rubrics - All programs have an agreed-upon work habits rubric. Please be sure you are using the program, department, or cluster-approved rubric.

Dress Code Update

IN BRIEF

  • Students may wear a brimless head covering/hats in all school spaces at all times, EXCEPT when in the shop.

  • In shop: students must wear only shop-issued hats.* When approved by the program, they may have a brim.

  • *There will be SST-approved individualized exceptions.

SST Dress Code

Appropriate student dress reflects positively on the school community. Students should consider SST as their place of employment and dress accordingly. Personal appearance, dress, hygiene or grooming must not disrupt the educational process or threaten the health or safety of any individual.  Students should dress and reflect on the student's goals as future employees.  Whether in academics or in their shop, the dress should be appropriate for the situation. In non-shop settings and for their safety, students may not wear hats with a forward-facing brim. Students are required to have their student ID in their possession. Accessories that may be used as a weapon are not acceptable and will be confiscated.

5.1. Shop Uniforms

Shop uniforms are required every day a student is assigned to shop. Students not in proper uniform are subject to discipline. See individual course expectations for uniform details.

5.2. Safety Glasses (MGL Chp. 71, Section 55c)

Approved safety glasses are required for all students, staff, and visitors in shops or on outside jobs 100% of the time. If the students' safety glasses are not in usable condition or the student has lost their glasses they may purchase a pair from the main office. The cost for replacement is $4.00.

The following shops are able to wear them on an as-needed basis according to industry standards and the above law:

  • Allied Health

  • Computer Information Technology

  • Cosmetology

  • Culinary Arts

  • Design Visual Communications

  • Horticulture Landscape Construction

Classroom Needs - Maintenance staff will be trying to go around Monday to make sure there are enough student desks in every classroom.  If you do find yourself short, please fill out a mojo in the intranet and place the timetable as urgent if it is an A-cycle class. If you have extra desks please do not remove them, we will take care of them at a later date.

Technology Needs - Please remember that all requests for support must be submitted through the helpdesk.  The easiest way to create a ticket is to simply send an email to techsupport@ssvotech.org.  I’d highly encourage everyone to log into PowerSchool and their computer to make sure you remember your passwords.  If you can’t log in, submit a ticket.  We will be monitoring the helpdesk to try to get all the password resets taken care of as quickly as we can.

The helpdesk should be used for all student requests as well.  If a student reports an issue to you please encourage them to email techsupport@ssvotech.org to get their issue addressed.  Teachers can also submit a ticket on behalf of the student if they wish, but you’re not expected to.  Students should not be sent down to the IT office.  We will have dedicated times set aside for student “drop-ins” before school and during 9th period.  All other visits to the IT office will be by appointment.

We will be providing “spare” Chromebooks in each classroom to be used for a student who may have forgotten their device or a kiosk for electronic passes.  These devices and chargers will be very clearly labeled for each classroom and should never be allowed to be taken out of your room.  Our goal is to have the devices delivered to all classrooms and shops by the end of the week.
