Scheduling Update

We continue to fine-tune schedules with the moving of students in and out of classes along with the assignment of co-teachers and para-professionals to support the needs of students. Co-teaching and para schedules should be completed by the end of this week.

Opening Week Schedule

Please see the link to view the tentative schedule for the opening 3 days of school.  This schedule incorporates the delayed start for students on August 30th, ID photos being taken on the 31st, a regular school day on September 1st, and of course, no school on Friday, September 2nd.

9th Period

9th period will be scheduled in PowerSchool in the coming days. Here are a few highlights.

  • All students and teachers will be schedule to the same location each day.
  • Students will use the E-Hall Pass to go to see their teachers, you'll learn how convenient and safe it is!
  • Teachers will be assigned a partner from another department, you'll both be scheduled to the same set of students each cycle.
  • You will cover each others PLCs as needed, and work out your own coverage schedule from there.
  • We have created academic department student hubs. It will be a place for available teachers to meet with students or available colleagues.
  • The academic DH will be assigned to that location, but no students will be scheduled to the location.
  • On Friday's we have scheduled co-curricular days. Students will be scheduled to their regular directed-study location, and use E-hall pass to go to see their co-curricular advisor.

Next week we’ll share a schedule and an FAQ. Meantime, feel free to send questions about 9th period

to sbaldner@ssvotech.org

E-Hall Pass

SST will be using E-hall Pass starting the first day of school. Teachers, students, and parents will all be provided with in person and virtual training before the end of the first day of school. Here is a quick link to a program overview.

SST Professional Development Schedule

The priorities for district wide PD fall under the umbrella of equity. We are focused on our Rethinking Grading Practices Initiative, supported by our Assessment Specialist, John Scopelleti, and Cultural Proficiency anchored with training from Dr. Wornum of KWL Diversity. Linked please find the dates of and some early plans for professional development. The dates will not change, the topics may, based on district demands and provider availability. Please also find the link to the Dr. Wornum’s June presentation.

Professional Development 2022-23

2-Day Inclusive Practices Seminar

We were thrilled to see so many of our teachers, new and veteran, participating in the Inclusive Practices Seminar held last week at school.  We hope you continue your training in this area.

Community Event Support

We are glad to announce that Minnie Clark is SST’s Community Event Coordinator, and will work with admin and faculty to ensure proper support at events throughout the school year. Please use the following link to learn more about this required program and to sign up for your top choices.

Rethinking Grading Pilot

Now that we’ve successfully recruited our Assessment Specialist through the  Reimagining Grading grant, John Scopelleti, we are looking forward to continuing the conversations we had last year about developing and implementing a standards-based grading system and equity-focused grading practices. More simply, we’ll be working to ensure that grades represent simply what a student can do. John Scopelleti will be working with students, educators, families, and other community members to make sure this work is useful, practical, and empowering.

If you’re interested in diving right into this work, keep an eye out for the Advanced Grading Practices posting. If you’re interested in walking in about ankle-deep, keep an eye out for the Beginning Grading Practices posting. It’s going to be great!

Freshman Orientation
Our freshman class will be in our building on Wednesday, August 25th from 12-3.  Students will find
their lockers and academic classrooms and meet available staff members.  Please join us in saying
hello if you are available.

SRO Hill and Guidance
This year SRO Hill along with the guidance team will be working with students to address the data that
was collected from the High Point survey that was sent out last school year.  We will use the survey
data collected to specifically target areas of concern within shop programs. Grade 9 will start meeting
with the team in January and subsequently meet every 2-½ months (2x this year). Grades 10-12 will
start in September and meet 3x this year. A detailed schedule is soon to follow!

Staff Parking Spots

Like every year with the addition of new staff, we have rearranged parking spots on the campus. Please use this link to identify your assigned spot.
