A new day has dawned, and it is a full day at that!
Bell and Lunch Schedule - Once again we are starting full in person days, 7:40-2:25 pm, for academic days. This will include remote and in-person days. This schedule has been shared with students.
- Please be aware that juniors who are in for their third day will now eat lunch 4 - 12:10-12:38 pm and then return to class until 12:53 pm. This is done to balance lunch numbers.
MCAS Proctors and Schedule - Please check as we have made changes to proctors and locations due to accommodations for students. We will be testing Monday and Wednesday of this week.
Senior sign out continues this Thursday for those students in shop, not on co-op. Sheets will be distributed early Thursday for staff to complete. Staff should fill out this spreadsheet with the pertinent information: subject, item type & #.
From the Vocational Office:
This year, the 9th graders ended up with less time to prepare for their subject based science MCAS. Creative lengths were taken to try to get all subject matter included in the short time frame for the Biology and Physics MCAS. Despite this, they are working to the very end of the cycle before MCAS on content. Unfortunately the department will only see them one day before MCAS. To help give our students the very best chance at performing well, the department is going to assign them short review EdPuzzles over the course of next week (shop week). Each day the students will receive an EdPuzzle. These are designed to take about 20 minutes to watch and answer some simple questions. We are asking if you would allow them to use some shop time to complete these assignments. While they are able to do them at home the likelihood of them valuing the review and completing the task is much higher if they can complete the task in school with a few encouraging words from their shop instructors.
Thank you for helping our freshmen succeed and giving them some of your valuable time.
Senior Sign out
Seniors will sign out on Friday May 28th. Here is an approximate schedule of when your shop may be called down but please wait for us to call your shop and do not automatically send them. They will report to the main hall outside the cafe.
Project Updates
SST students continue to do amazing work around our communities and this week was no exception! The first image below is the new handi-cap ramp that carpentry has been working on the past couple months. The students have been able to learn various finish carpentry skills while working with composite decking and very expensive composite deck rails. This job brought a whole new meaning of measure twice cut once!
Continuing on with carpentry, the 10th graders built a custom shed for Scituates Community Christmas. This non profit works with families throughout the whole year that are going through a hardship. The newly built shed will allow them the much needed storage space for the many donated items.
Horticulture continues their multi year landscape improvement project. Over the past few weeks the students have been working on this beautiful paver entry at the new ticket booth!
The last image is of a bench that MFW built as a memorial for past MFW student TJ Penney. For those who do not know TJ, he graduated in 2013 and went on to attend Wentworth Institute of Technology. Days before TJ was scheduled to graduate from Wentworth he passed away from a tragic motorcycle accident. Susan (TJ’s mom) wanted to place a bench somewhere so that his memory would never be forgotten and she found the perfect home in Humarock at Alice’s House. In the photo are TJ’s Mom and brother Josh.
