2.1.2021

Inclement Weather Schedule - If we need to utilize a remote snow day schedule we will be following the schedule you see below.  The decision of when to use a remote snow day comes with a number of factors including the amount, timing and duration of the storm as well as the likelihood of power outages.

  • 50 Minute classes with mixture of synchronous and asynchronous work (that is pre-posted)

    • All faculty should walkthrough downloading google assignments on tomorrow for off-line work in the event of a power and internet outage. Fortunately, it is the same group affected as in December when we previously employed this schedule.

      • See Crystal’s instructions on the intranet

  • The vocational day should be broken up into segments that include related as well.

Parent Teacher Night 2 is scheduled for Thursday, February 11th, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  The invitation to sign-up went out to parents Sunday afternoon. As we did with the previous event in October, all appointments are 5 minutes and done virtually. Those staff wishing to work in the building on this evening should send an email to Mark Aubrey.

Staff Breakfast: The South Shore School District will be providing a grab-and-go breakfast for all staff in the Brass Lantern on Wednesday, February 10th from 8am - 10am.

From the Vocational Office:
  • Surplus Items: Please note that there is a new process when surplusing items/equipment. If you have items you wish to surplus the department head can now fill out a MOJO ticket located in the staff intranet. Individual items valued over $500 will still need to go to the School Committee for approval but items valued under $500 can be declared surplus via Mr. Hickey.
  • Update Advisory Board Info: Please review your shop’s advisory list, add/remove/update, and be sure to highlight your committee chair if it was changed at the last meeting. Invitations will go out the week of Feb. 22, so please make sure your list is updated by that date. Thank you!
  • Project of the week: Over the past several months the Automotive in combination with Metal-Fab has been working on restoring a Paragon Park Carousel Tea Cup. Metal-Fab was in need of a set of rolling dies for the 1” tubing base and the cost to purchase was astronomical. With the odd size of the rollers, purchasing a set was not an option as they would just collect dust after. With the help of MET1, the instructors and students were able to produce the dies that Metal Fab needed for the project. Below is a picture of the dies the students made.

  • Outside areas: As we head into the snowiest month of the year please make sure your outside areas are cleaned for snow removal.
  • Study Island: This is the time of year that we start Study Island with the freshmen. As in years past, this assignment will come from the freshmen related instructor and be assigned as homework. The students should be assigned one exercise per related week. All the students currently have an account and password from the summer. If you have any questions or need help setting it up please see Lisa Bellantoni or send her an email at lbellantoni@ssvotech.org.
  • Simply Amazing: Over the past few months many people wondered what this country has become and where we are going as a Nation. Today SST witness a glimmer of hope from the students that we have all taught and had the privilege to instill great values in. While MFW was enjoying their special lunch for being the shop that collected the most food during our food drive, I played a local radio station over the sound system in the café. At noon time every day the station plays the national anthem. I was getting ready to dismiss them from the café when I noticed that they all stood up, turned and honored the American flag. No one told them to get up rather they did it out of respect for our country. Each and every faculty and staff member should be proud because YOU led by example and now they will lead the same way.

Virtual Dinner Party

Do you like to socialize? To try new recipes? To share a laugh with a friend? Then consider signing up for an SST virtual dinner party.
You'll help confirm the date and the menu. I'll provide the recipe and map out the minimal prep work needed to cook together later this winter.
