11.23.2020

The leadership team wishes the entire staff at South Shore a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanksgiving Holiday Orders: Thank you for placing your holiday orders with Culinary and Horticulture.

  • Pies/Rolls:  You can pick-up your orders after 12:00 PM on Tuesday, November 24th, from the Culinary Arts Program.
  • Flower Arrangements: You can pick-up your orders after school on Tuesday, November 24th, from the Horticulture Program.
Parent's Association Fundraiser: $10:00 gets you a chance to win up to 31 different gift cards to area businesses throughout the whole month of December. Check your school email and download the calendar or see Marie at the receptionist's desk.  All monies must be in by Monday, November 30th at the close of school.

Air Purifiers: Thank you to the maintenance staff who placed air purifiers in the cohort classrooms late last week. The addition of these devices means that we only need to leave the window above the univents open a couple of inches to create air circulation for the air exchanges. All other windows can now be closed.

Special Education Educational Assessment B forms are due two days prior to a Team meeting. A Google invitation for a meeting should prompt you to complete the students assessment form in Power School Special Populations.

Communication to English Learners parent(s)/guardian(s) - Please remember that if you have an English Learner in your classroom, the communication home should be in the parent(s)/guardian(s) preferred language.  We are fortunate to have many means to support you with this: on the spot interpretation for video and phone conferencing as well as Google translate/docs for emails.  Please reach out to Lin Ann Hutchinson or Student Services for support.

Mid-semester Grades- We've just passed the middle of the semester.  You will need to verify your M1 grades by following the directions here:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/12tlWT9mJZHkrgYRLV-qzPRnqQODB9BCfNL-AUYB-zvc/

Please make sure all grades are verified before you leave for the Thanksgiving break.  If you have any questions or problems, submit a ticket in mojo or send an email to techsupport@ssvotech.org.  Thanks!

Football Field lights - The lights are on! Now all we need is the ability to play sports. Thank you to Electrical, Carpentry, Horticulture and the instructors for making this happen. It was an all around team effort to make this project come to life!

Discipline Form - Please note there has been a newly created discipline form that should be filled out by the teacher when sending an issue to discipline. This form can be located on the staff intranet or here.

Detention - Now that the school year is underway, teachers may hold class detentions. The detention hours can run from 7:40-9am or 1-2:25pm depending on when the teacher is available. Please make sure that you have called home and that the student can get a ride in early or picked up for the afternoon detention. As always, please email discipline so we can track the detention hours.

Inventory and Photos- Please make sure you update your inventory sheets and photos of the new equipment. Any new equipment should have the serial number in the photo. We will be going through the files this week.

Budgets - There are a few budgets that we will be asking you to provide more detail on in regards to what the items are specifically. We will reach out to those shops directly.

SkillsUSA - Please have an internal shop test and report the top four(or more depending on how many events you enter) students to Lisa Bellantoni by Thanksgiving, gobble, gobble.

Those top four students will move on to districts. The school was informed last week that Nationals will be held this year however they will be virtual and for those trades that need to compete hands on, they will have those competitions held locally. More to come.

Special Ed Assessment “B” - When you receive a Google invitation for a student's IEP meeting, this should prompt you to complete an Educational Assessment B form in Power School - Special Populations right away.  Even if you are not designated to attend the Team meeting, you are required to complete the Ed. Assessment “B” form two days prior to the Team meeting. This is a legal obligation we have with the state and is not an option.

Hallway Schedule-  In the last month we have added two BR monitors to the payroll. This has allowed us to relieve the paras as much as possible so that they can be in the classrooms with their partner. The schedule that we have been using the past three weeks is basically what we will have for the year. There may be some slight changes here and there depending on how many staff are out of the building. Please use this schedule unless otherwise noted and remember that final assignments are not done till 7:30 that day.
