3.25.19

From the desk of the Principal, Mark

Discipline begins in the classroom. The administration is here to support the teacher in creating an ideal learning environment for all students.
  • We have seen an upswing in hat and hood wearing in recent weeks. Please work with us to have students remove these items from their heads.
  • With the warmer weather, we need to once again pay attention to the school dress code as it pertains to bare midriffs and low riding pants.
    • If you see a student a dress code violation please intervene. Ask them to "hike them up," or let a counselor or administrator know so we can get the student appropriate clothing.

Positivity Video - This project is one based on picking a student who makes you want to be positive and
is a student who makes you want to come to work.  When you select your student, review the filming requirements, have a filming buddy, and confirm with home that posting on social media is ok.   We tend to group the videos in threes, at one minute or less per student.  The person who takes the video should then share it with Joe. E. Marani so it can be edited and spliced with other videos.  See  Sandy Baldner, Kristin Bateman, or Suzanne Mathisen with questions.

Pineapple "Charting" - Please welcome the school community to lessons that include instructional practices that you are proud to share. Or, feel free to share a successful lesson or assessment strategy in a summary e-mail. Everyone loves a classroom success story, it's not bragging! The classroom can be a lonely place, share away.

Dress code  - Please hold your students' responsible for the expectations you supported in our student handbook. It doesn't matter if it is period 1, or period 5, in a classroom or in a shop, if you see something, say something. If you are concerned about addressing student because of their gender, phone a friend, a counselor, or a member of the admin team.  Do not ignore it.

If you disagree with the handbook, feel free to join the admin team as we conduct our annual document review.

Uniforms: Spring is a great time to take a look at uniforms. What do your students need? How can you make it available to them? If your program goes off-site, do your students look like a team? If you are working on our campus, do your students look cohesive? Do the student still look fresh and presentable? For programs that allow/need hats, have considered shop hats? They are highly recommended for the 2019-20 school year. What adjustments can you make this school year, and what can you do now to ensure you have all (but freshmen)in uniform for the first day of shop in September 2019?

Our CTE Student of the Year:  As we all know Cody Campbell (MET) and his family will be at Mechanics Hall in Worcester on April 11th, representing South Shore Tech as our recipient of the “Outstanding Vocational Student of the Year Award”.

When you see him in the halls please congratulate him and wish him good luck!!!

SkillsUSA: Elizabeth Hennessy and Gavin Scanlon will be representing South Shore Tech at the SkillsUSA Student Advisory Council meeting on Tuesday.  They will be out at Hanscom AFB chowing on MRE’s and make big plans for an awesome State Conference.

With Liz and Gavin on board I am positive it will be a “really big show”.

Below is the list of students participating in the State Conference April 25th-27th.  With only a few weeks till we get there, please make sure if there are any students who may be struggling that you address it with them know.  It is a fairly large investment bringing these students to the Conference and we would prefer to make sure they have good academic standing before they leave.

Once registered and past the deadline, we will not be refunded the registration cost, so please review the list as soon as possible and let Lisa B. or Paul Bello know if there is a concern.

Spring Sports: Coaches- Congratulations to the first successful week of the 2019 Spring Sports Season.  We are sure competitive contests will begin soon. Please be aware of the co-curricular events such as the State Conference and the above attendees participation.

If you have any questions or concerns in regards to these students being at the State Conference and they are on your rosters and lineups let’s talk about it now and make plans for these Student Athletes.
