Kudos:

Kudos to Matt Doyle!

Matt Doyle is synonymous with athletic excellence at SSVT.

As a football and basketball player, he rewrote the record books, and now as the head football coach and assistant basketball coach - he is helping this generation of athletes do the same!

Here are some Matt Doyle stats!

  • Matt started at SST in the fall of 2013 as an instructional aide. He joined the Math faculty in the fall of 2017.  His students enjoy a happy, rigorous place to learn math!
  • He was an Asst. Football Coach from 2013-2014 through the fall of 2019 when he became Varsity Coach.  He took over the football program in 2019, and since then he has brought the teams to Mayflower League champs and Sectional Finalists in 2019 and 2-time Vocational Champs (2019, 2022).
  • He's also coached Boys' JV Basketball from 2014 through the present. Additionally, he mentored over 20 all-league players in that time.

Kudos to Lisa Bellatoni!

There are just not enough positive words in the dictionary to describe this incredible and amazing person.  I know that I can speak on behalf of everyone that has worked with Lisa and that she is absolutely priceless.

Lisa's wealth of knowledge, skill, work ethic, and willingness to help all of the students that need her on a daily basis is outstanding.

I applaud you, Lisa.  You are an invaluable asset to this school.  Every student and staff member that has had the privilege of knowing or working with you in some capacity, know that my words are not empty.  But they are full of love, appreciation, and gratitude in all you do on a selfless level that is unmatched.

From the bottom of my heart.....Thank you, Lisa.  Thank you for all you do.

Note: Kudos are staff generated. Want to celebrate a colleague? Submitting a write-up to kudos@ssvotech.org

Chris Herren Presentation: This is a reminder that due to a scheduling conflict, we have been forced to cancel Chris’s presentation scheduled for January 31st. This presentation has been rescheduled to the morning of February 9th.

2-Hour Delay Canceled: With the change in the date of the Chris Herren presentation, there will be no two-hour delay on Wednesday, February 8th.

Paid opportunities to Develop SEL Initiatives at SST. SST received a grant to develop SEL lesson plans, and service learning opportunities and to update our attendance practices. The postings will soon be available in School Spring. The opportunities are drafted here, please reach out to Sandy Baldner for more information.

Field Trips: If staff members are going on field trips to support or lead students, please put in for a FIELD TRIP day in the portal. This helps us plan coverage if we know you will not be in the building.

IEP Improvement Project:  The Massachusetts IEP model has not been updated since 2001.  DESE has a rollout plan for a new IEP to be fully implemented across the state by fall, 2024.  Here is the link to the site and draft:  https://www.doe.mass.edu/sped/ImproveIEP/default.html

See Katie should you be interested in creating a focus group to view the proposed draft IEP  more closely.

Special Education Progress Reports are due on 2/10/23.  Katie shared a spreadsheet mid-January with assignments.

MCAS: This is a reminder that a number of students will be retaking the Science MCAS on Wednesday and Thursday, February 1st and 2nd.  This means will be pulling a large number of our paraprofessionals to proctor. Teachers should plan accordingly.

A Visitor: On Monday, Reed Dyer–a coach for Grading Guy John Scopelleti–will visit the school. He’ll join some PLCs with John, work with some teachers (already planned), and do a few classroom and shop walkthroughs with John. Just an FYI!

Student Focus Groups: For the last time in a while, please see this Sheet for a list of students in Grade 9 who will be invited to participate in focus groups on grading during Period 9 on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. If you need to work with a student on a day they’re scheduled for a focus group, let John Scop. know, and he’ll be sure the kid goes to you.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: The window will be opened Sunday night at 7:00 pm for families to sign up for slots. Please remember PTC is virtual on Tuesday, February 7th, and that time slots are 7 minutes for these conferences.

  • We have asked that only families with at-risk students sign up for a timeslot on Parent-Teacher night. We have urged families with students performing well to please reach out through email to their respective teachers.

  • We have also urged families to reach out to schedule meetings with their child’s vocational teachers, especially the 9th-grade families.

Discipline Flow and Student Harassment Reporting at SST - BRIEF FAQ

Do I need to send an email to discipline@ssvotech.org  and fill out a discipline form?

No. Please fill out the form  - SST Staff Member Report For Student Discipline and Hazing or Harassment. It is on the intranet.

When do I use the discipline@ssvtoech.org email?

It's great for follow-up, for example, we log enter teacher detentions when we know about them. Use the discipline@ssvotech.org email to let us know if students served, or didn’t serve. If the student doesn’t show up to your detention we issue additional general detention.

Who is responsible for discipline?

The team is Sandy Baldner, Keith Boyle, and Bob Mello. Keith and Bob are most likely to do the first level of interviews and investigation, though there are times when Sandy will be involved from the start. Sandy Baldner sits in on all hearings that might result in outside suspension (OSS), and on some hearings that may result in inside suspension (ISS). Keith and Bob can issue detentions and short-term ISS. Sandy issues long-term suspensions and OSS  Mark Aubrey hears appeals.

Who do I contact when I need immediate assistance?

Call Nicole Conner at 459 or Marie Mariani at 413 at, they will walkie-talkie the admin team, and a member of the admin team or a counselor (depending on who the student is and what is happening) will report to the identified location.

How do students report harassment of any kind?

Students who wish to report harassment or hazing can report to any member of the school staff who are mandated reporters. They can make an initial report verbally or in writing.  The mandated reporter is required to share the report with the appropriate staff members. We ask all staff to complete the SST Staff Member Report For Student Discipline and Hazing or Harassment. It is on the intranet.  The student will then be interviewed, often by a counselor, who will work with the student to develop a written report. After that, if necessary an investigation begins. In most cases, parents are informed. The discipline team and counselors as appropriate conduct the investigation. If the investigation requires, the harassment committee will be brought together to hear the case and to make recommendations for an outcome which could be education, service, or disciplinary action.
