1.23.23

1/23/2023

Kudos: Stephen Culp, who has been working in Graphic Communication since the fall of 2018. He has been instrumental in expanding the technology in that shop, building up co-op positions for their students, and crafting the yearbook, especially during some challenging times. Mr. Culp has been intricately involved with the yearbook since he has been at SSVT helping to guide the layout, the printing, and collecting and taking photographs to make each book special. He recently finished his Master's degree in teaching and curriculum. Congrats! We're privileged to be working with you, Stephen.

Note: Kudos are staff generated. Want to celebrate a colleague? Submitting a write-up to kudos@ssvotech.org

As you know, SST’s School Committee had the opportunity to celebrate Keith Boyle, Leeanne Monteiro, Jeff McBurney, Charles Doucet and Rachel Schuster. It was a good evening.

On a side note, the Brass Lantern restaurant was once again packed on Friday wall-to-wall as soon as they opened.  They had a waitlist of folks out in the hallway.  I guess our little culinary secret is out!

Student of The Month: Ethan Mayo was SST’s January 2023 Student of The Month.

Nominate a student for February by completing this Student of The Month Form.

MCAS: Please remember that we will be proctoring the Science MCAS retakes on Wednesday, February 1st and 2nd. Please be aware we will be using a number of our paras and smaller room locations on these dates.

Student Focus Groups: Please see this Sheet for a list of students in Grades 10 and 12 who will be invited to participate in focus groups on grading during Period 9 on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week. If you need to work with a student on a day they’re scheduled for a focus group, let John Scop. know, and he’ll be sure the kid goes to you.

Rethinking Grading Website: There is now an Updates section to the Rethinking Grading website. All changes will be incorporated on the main sections of the site, but the Updates section allows for one-stop-viewing. It will be updated every two weeks, if there’s new information. This week, check out the updated consensus figures on alternate grade scales and eligibility as well as the results of more conversations with employers.

SST Mentoring Program

Formative Evaluations will be completed February for all teachers on a 1-year new or new to SST educator evaluation plan.  Your mentor can assist you with the expectations, and can help you prepare for your meeting with your evaluator.

Mentoring is not just for new or new to SST teachers. Looking for new strategies for your classroom? Don’t hesitate to connect with our amazing mentor coordinators, Minnie Clark and Carolyn Rutkowski. They can help connect you with a mentor or another staff member skilled in the area you’d like to grow in.

Reminder: Parent Teacher Conferences: February 7th 5:00-8:00 - virtual.
