School Culture Update - A number of elements are moving forward with the help of our staff members.

  • Equity Alliance: The Equity Alliance, made up of teachers and students, held its first meeting last week and began to layout plans for the upcoming school year and beyond in the areas of racial, gender, socio-economic bias education.  We will meet again on Tuesday, October 5th, immediately after school in room 103. We hope you will join us and add your input.
  • Bulletin Boards: Thank you to Carpentry, MET and Graphic Communication for pushing ahead with elements for our Hall of Fame and SST Small Business boards in the main hallway.  I expect you will see them completed prior to Open House on November 16th.
  • Flag Pole Banners: Thanks to Graphic Communication and Mr. Bello, we have a plan to replace the banners on the flag poles out front that will highlight our trades.
  • Mascot and Logo: Mr. Fallano and Student Council are engaging the students with the goal of creating a new logo, that is unique to the SST Vikings.
  • Hallway Murals: Graphics is working on creating displays for about the lockers around the building that highlight life at SST including vocational, academic, extra-curriculars and inspirational/meaningful quotes. Please take this opportunity to use the link below to add you suggestions. For example: “Choose a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” – Confucius.

Car Show - This Sunday, October 3rd, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm marks the return of the Ken Thayer Car Show. This event is organized by the Automotive Department and the Parents' Association as a fundraiser.  There will be BBQ food truck and DJ as well. Please stop by, enjoy some beautiful vehicles, and support the parents who support us and our students.

Virtual Staff Meeting - Monday afternoon at 2:40 pm, we will start our volunteer virtual meetings between staff and the leadership team.  This weekly meeting will allow the staff to ask questions and  for us to have follow-up conversations.

New B Cycle 9th Period Schedule - Please review your PowerSchool account for a new locations on the B Cycle. Exactly like the A Cycle, students will be coming to you every day throughout the cycle. You will need to make requests to see students through the 9th period google pass program.

Due to the need to capture attendance you will still see your old 9th period sections, but there will be no students enrolled. These will disappear as the attendance is captured.

PLC Schedule - Academic PLCs are up and running. All meetings are held in room 207 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Departments meet on the following days:

ELA: A2 & A9

SS: A4 & A7

Math: B2 & B9

SCI: B4 & B7

Town Green Oval: Horticulture will be seeding the front grass oval during the next week. They will be staking and taping off the oval in an effort to prevent folks from walking on it for the next few weeks.  Please be careful when parking next to it.

Special Education Team Meetings:  Since Team meetings are virtual and space is limited, when we schedule a meeting, we will automatically reserve the conference room in Student Services for staff who would like to use the space.  The student and the liaison will be there while other team members are on the screen. Not a problem if you choose not to use this space and prefer to go to the teacher's room, 317, or another quiet space you may find.

Special Education Educational Assessments - when you start an Educational Assessment in PS, would you add your last name to the 'Label /Comment' section before the Educational Assessment is created?

Please note that this document is read aloud at meetings. Be sure to share strengths followed by any items you may be concerned with.  It's your time to share what accommodations are /are not working for the student and if they reluctant to your supports.  This is a time where changes to the plan should take place.  Reach out to Katie if you need clarification.

SST Job Board:

  • Just a reminder that we have an active job board for students and alumni. If you have students in need of a co-op job, please direct them to the job board first. Please check back regularly for updated job postings as we are receiving new opportunities every week.
