12.10.18

From the desk of the Principal, Mark

Heating your classroom: Please do not to turn the univents off in the classrooms. Again this weekend one was off leading to dangerously low temperatures. This is a potential accident waiting to happen. Please advise over the holiday break all units will have new locks installed on them, but until then do not adjust them. Thank you.

When you are out sick, please CALL the school cell phone and leave a message. You can do this at any time.  Texting does not tell me who sent the text. This makes coverage difficult and Mr. Aubrey not so happy.

Classroom Ideas for 12/21

We know the days leading up to a holiday break can be exhausting in classrooms and shops. As your content instruction and assessment understandably winds down for the holiday break please do plan end of class/shop activities on the 21st that honor some area of your curriculum, including employability skills. Movies/video that support curriculum are encouraged, movies that do not link in some way, are not encouraged.

Below are some generic suggestions to prime-the-pump:
Work on your program Inventory

Teach students how to organize all of their content the Google Drive or in Email
Set up games that encourage dialogue (speaking and listening) in peer groups
Set up games that encourage higher order thinking (backgammon, chess, etc)
Student Self Assessments and Goal Setting
Mock Interview Practice

Cooperative Education Update: We currently have 52 seniors participating in co-op of which are 40 male student and 12 female students. These seniors have logged over 6,450 combined hours and earned over $80,067.28. We would like to continue to add to our co-op numbers but we need your help! If you know a senior who would be interested in this opportunity please encourage them to come visit the Vocational Office for more information. Also please let them know that transportation can be provided to the work site in the morning if needed.

Classroom/Program Management

As we approach the winter break these last two weeks of the year can be difficult in the classroom. The students are as anxious as we are for the time off and all that the holiday season brings.

Please remember that curtailing that inappropriate behavior before it escalates is essential.  Giving that one hour after school can send the message to the entire class about what you find acceptable and what you do not.

You might be best to ask your student to stay behind for a moment and give them your detention privately.  This allows you to keep the pace of the classroom going without interruption. Or you may just need to let them know they are on the borderline of unacceptable behavior privately without eliciting a response from the entire.
