Students Needing Extra Help

Wednesday, December 16th thru Friday, December 18th - For those of us who have had the pleasure of seeing Gerry Bova in a Christmas Carol know what a holiday delight it was for those in attendance. Well now he along with Jay Savage and Pat Henderson are directed our own students in a virtual rendition on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday evening. Please send an email to Pat Henderson about signing up for access.

Tuesday, December 22nd, the MFT Local #1896 and the South Shore School District will be providing all staff the opportunity for a free coffee or hot chocolate bar with prepackaged cookie out of the Brass Lantern restaurant as a holiday gift.  Thank you to the restaurant staff for supporting this good cup of good cheer.

Wednesday, December 23rd, is a full day of school and learning. Please plan your curriculum activities accordingly whether remote or in-person.

QUARANTINED STUDENTS:

What the student should do?

  • When a student is quarantined the student and parent are told:
    • the student must communicate with their teachers about their quarantined status
    • if the student is healthy enough they are expected to participate remotely in their learning.
    • If your class is remote they should be participating synchronously with you.
    • If you class is in school they should be longing into their google classroom and working asynchronously on the material
  • Students who are quarantined are marked Remote-Present RP.
  • With all that being said, their are different ways of handling this situation.
    • If you have a majority of a class quarantined, an academic teacher might have the Q students login to google classroom and watch class remotely as the teacher leads class in the room.  (Please check with Kara Cromack about the effectiveness of this approached as she employed it last week.)
Classroom and shop layouts are important aspects to controlling and tracing any possible exposure.
  • Please update your academic classroom seating charts and make sure they are shared with your cohort captain, Craig, Tammie or Suzanne
  • Shop and related instructors, if your shop breaks students down my pods, or sections of the shop like certain tables and booths it would be helpful if these students were sitting next to each other in the related class as well.  It will help to contain the amount of students needing to quarantine.
  • Finally, please continue to be mindful of your instructional methods. When demonstrating a skill please try to keep students properly distanced as well as distanced from you. If you need to work with a student one on one please keep your contact to a minimum.
From the Vocational Office:

OSHA- We are assessing where each sophomore is in the OSHA 10 certification process. Here is a spreadsheet with tabs by shop, listing out each sophomore in your shop. Please take a moment to access your CareerSafe account and make a note on whether the student has completed the course, if they received their card, or if they have not completed the course, what their progress is at this point. This needs to be completed by December 18th.

Once you log into your CareerSafe account, go to Voucher and Teacher Tools, then Seat Management. Your students should be listed there. This is the first year where vouchers are purchased fully from the vocational budget, so tracking these things going forward can also be done via the Vocational Office.

Exploratory - Congratulations on finishing a successful freshman exploratory experience! Monday, December 14th will be the freshmen’s first day in their selected shops. A list of materials /uniform requirements along with program expectation sheets should be provided to each freshman student during their first week of shop. Students will need to continue wearing their exploratory uniform until shop uniforms are ordered. When planning lessons for incoming shop students, please move OSHA instruction towards later in the year.

IRC’s/Benchmark Assessments- If you have not documented program IRC’s and individual grade benchmark assessments please plan on doing so once we return from the holiday break. Benchmark assessments should be logged into PowerSchool and should include a pretest, a formative assessment and a summative assessment (grades do not need to count towards final grade) there should be at least one benchmark assessment per each grade level.

Job Cards- Job cards are required for all work. Job cards can be accessed in the Mojo section. Please fill in all fields and once the card is entered you will receive an email stating whether it is approved or denied. Any work that is expected to be over $100 is required to be paid for up front.

Inventory and Photos- Please make sure you update your inventory sheets and photos of the new equipment and materials. These sheets are found in the Teacher Curriculum Folder under Vocational Teachers. Any new equipment should have the serial number in the photo. We will be going through the files this week.

Winter Clean Up- With winter coming upon us quickly we would ask that you take a look at your outside spaces (courtyard, outside shop doors, etc) and please clean them up ASAP.

Project Highlights- This weeks project is the well covers Carpentry has been working.
