Annual Open House
As you know, Open House is Saturday from 10-1PM. This is one of the most important days for us in a long school year. This is our opportunity to show the public all the good work we do every day and convince the next group of students, and often their parents, that we are an excellent educational choice.
- Please make sure you have done all you can to ensure a successful Open House.
- The Academic Departments and Student Organizations will be in the cafeteria this year. This is where students register and fill out applications. The goal is to increase foot traffic in and around our superb academics and extra-curricular programs.
- Please make sure the bulletin boards are ready to go with shop and academic materials that show off the "best we have to offer."
- Please limit the number of students working Open House to a minimum. The wandering bands of students makes it feel like we are at the mall at times. Bring students in and make sure they are busy. Thank you.
- Staff Dress - Please wear your program uniform or an SST shirt. New logo shirts are expected later this week.
This Thursday is GO PINK for Breast Cancer Research. Please join us and the Volleyball Team and go pink!
Fun Friday this week is Bruins' Day.
Dynamite Data
A huge Viking Kudos to the staff led by our Math and ELA departments. I hope you have taken a look at the data provided by Michael Mahoney that show that in ELA, South Shore Tech had the 15th highest Student Growth Percentile (SGP) in the state. That's not against vocational schools folks. That's against the entire state. Not to be outdone the Math finished 3rd in the state in SGP behind Wellesley and Littleton. Remember that SGP measures student performance against other students that scored the same on a previous assessment. In short, it measures how far we have taken a student in the 2 short years we have been educating them. This is incredible work and you all deserve a "pat on the back" and a "handshake" for a job well done!

9th Period Automated Sign-out Sheet
Last year I met with a core group of staff who were looking to be able to have students come from one academic class to another during 9th period. My concern was the unwanted foot traffic under our previous "purple pass" model. We worked together and I am happy to report thanks to the diligent efforts of Joe E. in the IT department we have an electronic means in place for one teacher to request a student from another teacher's 9th-period class. Students will show up at the new location at the bell and spend the entire period with the requesting staff member. The request will be logged in a spreadsheet that will allow the support staff to find a student. I would expect this roll out during the week.
