10.24.22

Open House - Thank you to everyone who organized and participated in the Open House on Saturday. We had over 300 families walk through our doors to see all the exciting things we do here every day. Congratulations to all!

Parent-Teacher Conferences - Families will begin signing up for Parent-Teacher conferences on Sunday night at 7:00 o’clock.  If you have a certain student’s family you’d like to see, please reach out to the home about them signing up for a virtual appointment.

FFA National Conference -  We wish the best of luck to Cassi and TJ, who will be leading a team of 4 Horticulture to the National FFA competition mid-week.

Advisory -  Our Fall Advisory Dinner & Meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 8th at 6:30pm. Invitations have been sent. If you have any additions, please send them to Nicole. Here is an informational document about Advisory - including a working draft of our agenda for the evening.

Co-op - Now that we have our initial rush of students out on co-op, we ask Vocational Instructors to please review this list of seniors by shop and indicate which students may need some extra assistance with co-op or any other notes you’d like to make on the student’s co-op interest.

Budget Prep: Reminder that Tom's annual budget prep memo went out to cost center supervisors a couple of weeks ago. Please note that the deadline for Technology is October 24th; the deadline for budget is October 28th. Keith will be meeting with vocational department heads to review budgets over the next week.

Delay of day(s) - We will begin to use our delay of days to invite a small group of students in who need an extra scoop of time to complete missed assignments, retake assessments, etc…   Please reach out to Lisa Bellantoni if you have a student in mind and she will provide you with more details.

Thank you for participating in Wednesday’s PD with Kelly Mertens!  She will be back on our next PD day on 11/1 (the morning of Parent Teacher Conferences) from 8-10 AM to discuss ‘executive functioning’ and share strategies to support students in the areas of the organization, task initiation, and self-advocacy.

Remember that an accommodation chart is a great tool for you to use in your classroom and it comes in handy during parent-teacher conferences too.  You can find these on the intranet or by reaching out to Katie, a special educator, or any paraprofessional.

Special education Liaisons are labeled in alerts in Power School. Click on the alert icon to view the liaison.  A liaison attends the student's team meeting and checks in with the student throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns about a student with a disability please reach out to Katie or the student's liaison. We are here to help you!

Student Grading Focus Groups: 58 sophomores, juniors, and seniors have already signed up to participate in discussions about grading practices at SST. They’ll have the opportunity to meet with Assessment Specialist John Scopelleti during Period 9, starting in November. These focus groups will be similar to the PLCs John has facilitated; they’ll center on seven grading practices that promote equity. If you have any questions, let John know!
